President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of the Chairperson of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Josephine Nkrumah, who has been appointed as the new ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia.

Ms Nkrumah was at the Jubilee House in Accra yesterday to personally deliver her resignation, which takes effect from April 30, to the President, after a seven-year service at the commission under two administrations.

She was first appointed as Deputy Chair from April 1, 2015 to December 19, 2016, before becoming the chair of NCCE from December 20, 2016.

President Akufo-Addo congratulated Ms Nkrumah on the new appointment and praised her for the quality of work she exhibited at the NCCE.

The President wished the outgoing NCCE commissioner well on her new role and urged her to “go into her new job to bring credit to Ghana.”

As Chair of the ECOWAS Authority, President Akufo-Addo assured Ms Nkrumah of his support in her new role and expressed confidence in her ability to “give a good account of herself.”

“If there is any problem in the course of your tenure as ECOWAS Ambassador, you can always count on our support,” he said and urged Ms Nkrumah to be mindful of the turbulent history of Liberia which had shaped the country’s infant democracy to date.

Ms Nkrumah, on her part, thanked President Akufo-Addo for the support over the years and the advice he offered which influenced her decision to accept her new role.

She said the ambassadorial role was a new role and appealed to the President to continue to support and guide her to make her duty tour a success.
