Africa is gradually working towards becoming a power house in terms of providing the needs of not only the people on the continent, but in the world.
The Northern African country of Morocco is set to be an "indispensable player on the international scene in terms of vaccines" in a few years to come. A project to manufacture anti-Covid and other vaccines as well as syringes has been launched in the country. This project is geared at producing 60% of the vaccine needs in Africa by next year and will strengthen the strategic presence of the kingdom on the African continent, as it will be the main exporter of vaccines to the countries of the continent.
These were disclosed by Samir Machour, Principal Promoter and the man responsible for the implementation of King Mohammed VI’s vision for the vaccines and biotechnology products project in Morocco.
The manufacturing plant which is in partnership with Swedish firm, Recipharm, will be known as Sensyo Pharmatech, and will produce vaccines against coronavirus and other diseases, with production expected to reach 116 million units in 2024, the official news agency, MAP has reported.
Indeed, this is very good news for the people of Africa especially as a few other African countries are also working towards the production of Covid vaccines on the continent. The Moroccan plant is said to have a production capacity of 2 to 3 billion doses and will source its supplies locally.
The launch ceremony was presided over by the visionary leader of Morocco, King Mohammed VI.
