The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) has launched an Educational Fund through which monies generated would be used to help provide modern educational structures for public schools within the Municipality.

Ms Anna Adukwei Addo, Tema West Municipal Chief Executive who launched the Educational Fund during a business forum, indicated that the initiative was to help provide quality education for children in the area.

Ms Addo said the fund would help the administration to put together the needed infrastructure, learning and teaching materials, as well as attracted quality teachers for the Municipality.

She explained that almost all of the school buildings in Tema West, which were constructed many years ago were in deplorable states and therefore there was the need to replace them with modern structures.

She announced that the Assembly would use its part of Internally Generated Fund (IGF) as well as solicit support from institutions to factor the fund in their corporate social responsibility.

She noted that her team had decided to start the construction of such modern school buildings from the Start Basic School in Tema Community five, explaining that the school was chosen as a pilot due to its topography.

The pilot school building she said, would have a capacity of over 1,000 population with classrooms from Kindergarten to the Junior High Level, and would have all the needed facility for effective teaching and learning.

Mr Kester Agyekum Boateng, Development Planning Officer of TWMA, in a presentation with pictorial evidence of some educational project under construction in the Municipality, said the Assembly was constructing an educational school complex at Community two.

Mr Boateng said the projects included a 12-unit two storey school block, and a kindergarten block at Adjei-Kojo, Islamic school at Lashibi, paving of the compound of Tetteh Ocloo State School for Deaf, among others.

The provision of such educational building, he noted, was to ease congestion at the various public schools as some of the schools had about 106 pupils in one class.
