The Unilever Ghana Foundation has officially ended its operations after 20 years of service in the country.
Speaking at the closing ceremony in Accra, Mr George Owusu Ansah, the Managing Director of Unilever Ghana, said the Foundation had lived up to its expectation and very proud of its exploits since its inception.
Working with global communities, Mr Ansah said the Foundation had been able to deliver the needed infrastructure under the hygiene stations projects to various beneficiary public basic schools in Tema, Ashaiman, Kpone and Sakumonor.
"The Foundation has showed great commitment, supporting its vision of improving the health and hygiene conditions in the public basic schools," he said.
Mr Ansah said he had no doubts that its Board of Trustees would have carried on with the Foundation's good works for the benefit of Ghanaians when given the opportunity.
He assured that Unilever Ghana PLC's commitment towards lending a hand in support of the development process in the country remained unwavering.
The Managing Director stated that as the Foundation ends its operations, it had developed a new 'compass' to serve as a guide to do better in the country.
"This new compass offers us the blueprint for advancing our sustainability activities in the country, which are, to improve the health of the planet, improve people's health, confidence and wellbeing and to contribute to a fairer, more socially inclusive world" he said.
He announced that the Foundation was seeking to expand the "Shakti" project launched in the Upper West Region in 2018 to deprived areas of the country for the benefit of more women and families.
The Managing Director of Unilever commended the Trustees of the Foundation, both past and present, for their dedication over the past years of service.
Mr Andrew Quayeson, the Chairman of the Foundation, noted that the winding up of the Foundation's work was in line with the strategy of Global Unilever to centralize the operations of its social projects and initiatives across the world to tackle global environmental and health challenges such as climate change, plastic waste and Covid-19 pandemic.
"It is my hope that the Global Foundation will continue to support and take to a higher level the impactful initiatives undertaken by the local Foundation," he said.
