MTN Ghana has organized the 2021 edition of editors forum for media personnel in Western and Central Regions at Takoradi, with a call on the media to support and cooperate with the company to execute its mandate effectively.
Participants were briefed on the performance of the company over the past 25 years to deepen their knowledge of the Company's operations.
Mr Selorm Adadevoh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, announced that, "this year has been our 25th anniversary from when the company Scancom started in Ghana, we are very excited because we did not get this far by our own might but through the support of our consumers, media partners, friends, and relatives".
He stated that the future was bright for the company because in January this year, the new strategy dubbed, "The ambition 2025 strategy" was launched to move the company to a greater height.
Mr Adadevoh said in the past, the company focused on how to directly impact the lives of Ghanaians through the provision of educational infrastructure, support for SMEs, health facilities, and also brought products and services to their doorsteps through their own channels.
"In the next five years, MTN Ghana intends to expand its presence and participation around five main pillars where our business would focus more on ecosystem participation standpoint and become the platform player that enables others to deal with consumers, bring different innovation and services to partner with us," he said.
He said they hope to accelerate the rate of development around digital, Fintech, network service, adding that, they have redefined this and added all to the company's mission statement to ensure they succeed with its partners.
Mr Adedavoh said, "for us, this is inspiring and requires a significant change within the business, the way we think, partner, and participate in our ecosystem. We are currently working on how to move businesses along to achieve our mission statement as to how to achieve 25 million Ghanaians by 2025."
"I am sure with your participation and support, you will help us educate the masses on what this means and the intricacies of becoming a platform player" he added.
He further said, "we believe technology has a critical role to play in this ambitions, which can lead Ghana to standout, With MTN Ghana becoming a platform we will try to invest in the structure that allows us to deliver that ambition".
The CEO noted that they would continue to support the digitalization agenda because it would not only benefit MTN but the telecommunication industry and the economy.
The Chief Corporate Services Officer, Mr Samuel Koranteng, expressed worry about how some media houses, especially television stations gave their platforms for money doubling fraudsters to use it as a medium to defraud people.
"Money doubling is not possible it is fraud but there are some television stations out there who advertise and use our logo and MTN numbers to display on their screens it is also a scam. I am appealing to you that you should try and put an end to it".
Mr Koranteng emphasized that, "With the help of the Ghana Police Service, we have arrested some Mobile money fraudsters and they are assisting us to bring the culprits to book".
Mr Moses Dotsey Aklorbotor, Western Regional Chairman of Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), and Mrs Alice Tettey, Chairperson of Central Regional GJA, thanked the giant telecommunication network for the continuous media support.
