All Form Three students of senior high schools are permitted to go on mid-semester break from tomorrow, Tuesday July 20 to Sunday, July 25, 2021.
A letter signed by the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in charge of Quality and Access, Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, however, said academic work should resume on Monday, July 26, 2021.
“Students who do not wish to go home or find it difficult to go home should be allowed to remain in the school and heads are to ensure that they are fed and follow all school rules.
‘’By this, regional directors of education are to inform all heads of senior high schools to take note and to communicate same to staff, students and parents,” according to the letter addressed to all regional directors of education.
Reopening
In April this year, the GES in a statement, rescheduled the reopening of school for SHS final-year students from April 6, to May 5, 2021 to give the Forms 3 students an uninterrupted instructional period till they write their final examination in September/October.
Ordinarily the GES explained that the Form Three students were to have reported to school on April 7, 2021 and be in school until May 28, 2021.
The students were then to have gone on vacation from May 29 to June 29, 2021.
The current arrangement, the GES further explained, therefore, meant that when the final-year students reported on May 5, 2021, they would be in school until they write their WASSCE.
The statement gave the assurance that the students would not be short-changed and that their instructional period of 1,080 hours needed prior to the final examination would be intact.
It added that management would organise a special training for the core subject teachers to equip them to effectively help the final-year students excel.
