The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency, Mr Alfred Obeng-Boateng, has distributed 45,000 rubber seedlings to farmers in the Municipality in support of the government's Planting for Export Rural Development (PERD) Programme.
Presenting the seedlings to 300 registered farmers for transplanting at Sefwi -Humjibre, the MP said the initiative was to create a sustainable raw material base for farmers across the Constituency to increase revenue and the export of agricultural products.
He urged the constituents not to only depend on cocoa production since cocoa was a yearly earned income.
He advised the farmers to consider rubber plantations to fetch them a monthly income after four years to complement cocoa production to lessen the hardship in the area.
He said the seedlings would be distributed among the farmers in the Sefwi Bekwai zone, which includes Akaaso, Antrosu, Alata, Bankromisa, Muoho, Nyetina, Ampenkrom, and Humjibre.
He said the project would be replicated in communities in the Bibiani and Anhwiaso zones.
Mr Obeng-Boateng was optimistic that patronage of such interventions by the farmers would go a long way to reduce poverty in the Municipality and urged the beneficiary farmers to adhere to the directives from the experts to ensure maximum yields.
He implored the youth to take advantage of the innovative support to improve their lives.
The Chief of Humjibre, Nana Kwadwo Twum ll, on behalf of the beneficiary communities praised the MP for his immense contributions towards the development of farmers in the Municipality.
Nana Twum ll assured the MP that the farmers would adhere to all the directives given by the experts to ensure the growth of the seedlings.
