A group of Maritime Security Experts have paid a working visit to the Takoradi Air Force Base and the Sekondi Dockyard to familiarize themselves with the country's Maritime/Air Security operations.

Their visit precedes a two-day "International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference" for industry players to break a common ground on International security and prospect for business and economic growth.

The Conference, to open in Kempiski in the Greater Accra Region would be on the theme: "Maritime Security and Trade: The Nexus between a secured Maritime Domain and a developed Blue Economy".

At the Takoradi Air Force Base, the selected experts were taken through the various aircraft in the hanger of the base, their functions, and capabilities.

Group Captain Kissih Atiemo, said the command was looking for increasing fleets, improved infrastructure at the Air Traffic Control, crew training, and enhance interoperability to dealing with mushrooming security threats along the Gulf of Guinea.

On display for attention were five operational aircraft for various surveillance, aerial photos, and rescue among other purposes.

Commodore Samuel Walker, 2 Garrison Commander spoke about the 1963 Dockyard of the service, built for maintenance and repairs.

The Dockyard currently, sees to the refurbishment of boats and building of ships.

He said the favourable location of the yard made it a preferable centre in the subregion.

Commodore Walker believed that an expansion in the near future was critical to have a good footing in the oil and gas industry and therefore called for partnership in that regard.
