The Media have been urged to help project Dr Hilla Limann Technical University positively to the outside world to help attract the necessary support needed for its growth and expansion.

Professor Elias Nortaa Kunedeb Sowley, the Vice-Chancellor of the University said the media was a key stakeholder of the institution and could contribute significantly to its growth through positive reportage to market it to attract external support.

Prof. Sowley made the appeal during his maiden press conference in Wa after taking over office as the Vice-Chancellor of the institution a month ago.

He noted that the vision was to grow the institution to one of a higher repute that could compete very well with its contemporaries here in Ghana and anywhere in the globe, adding that this could not happen without positive media projection.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that he was not barring the media from reporting on issues affecting the growth of the institution but that the media should do so without compromising on accuracy, balance, and fairness, and above all the facts.

Prof Sowley noted that the institution, which was initially known as Wa Polytechnic was converted into Wa Technical University and later renamed after the late former President, Dr Hilla Limann.

"So the proper name of the University is Dr Hilla Limann Technical University and it is important the media keep to the proper name to enhance the identity of the institution", the Vice-Chancellor said.

On infrastructure, he said the building of hostel facilities was key in the agenda, adding that he had already started engaging with key stakeholders to see how possible they could work to get these hostel facilities so that students could stay on campus and attend lectures instead of staying in town and trekking to campus for lectures.

He said in other jurisdictions, wealthy individuals put up hostel facilities for institutions, and these institutions in turn honour them by naming the facility after them.

Prof Sowley, therefore, appealed to individuals, organisations, and companies that can come to the aid of the institution in that regard and they would, in turn, honour them by naming such facilities in their names.

He said the topography was good and there was a lot of space for development.

The Vice-Chancellor also appealed to prospective students to choose the University for their higher education and assured of effective academic work and relatively low cost of living.
