The National Forestry Forum Ghana (NFF-G) on Thursday commended the Government on the Green Ghana Project, championed by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
Mr Kwame Asamoah Dwomoh, the President of the Forum, in a release to the Ghana News Agency, said: "We wish to commend the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in particular, and Government of Ghana as a whole, for the introduction of the Green Ghana Project."
"It is our hope that the five million trees to be planted on Friday, June 11, 2021, the target will be achieved. We commend the President of the Republic of Ghana for his active involvement in the promotion of the project," he added.
Mr Dwomoh appealed to the public to participate and support the tree planting exercise and expressed the hope that the government would put in place policies to sustain the forests.
"The NFF-G will follow the implementation of the Green Ghana Project closely, with an eagle eye, and collaborate with government and key stakeholders to ensure that the trees are protected for future use for the interest of the nation," he noted.
Mr Dwomoh commended the authorities for rekindling the fight against galamsey to safeguard the environment and water bodies.
"We will appeal to all the actors in the galamsey to cooperate with government and let the national interest override their personal interests," he said.
