The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, has urged stakeholders within the mining sector to support the Akufo-Addo-led Government to make the nation the mining investment hub in Africa.

He made the appeal on Wednesday when he called on the Management and Staff of the Minerals Commission.

The working visit to the Head office of the Minerals Commission in Accra was to familiarise himself with the Commission's operations and interact with Staff.

He urged management and staff of the Commission to, as a matter of urgency, support him and the government to make Ghana an attractive investment destination for mining companies.

The Minister indicated that the old ways of doing business were over and urged Management and Staff of the Commission to join forces with him in solving the enormous challenges confronting the mining sector, especially the illegal artisanal small-scale mining.

"The President expects results from all of us, We cannot fail, we must rise up to the occasion and deliver" the Minister emphasised.

He underscored the need to strictly enforce the local content legislation on mining, in order to attract many indigenes into the mining space, particularly the Community Mining Scheme and the small scale mining sector in particular.

He said it was imperative to decentralize mining regulations and services such as the issuance of mining licences and permits to facilitate easy acquisition of mining licence, adding that that would help bring sanity into the small scale mining industry.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Commission Mr. Martin Ayisi, pledged the Commission's commitment to working and cooperating with the Minister to achieve the objectives of the government.

A member of staff, Mr Michael kotoka, suggested to the Minister to make issues pertaining to galamsey a Performance Indicator for all Regional Ministers.
