The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on Tuesday said Capital O2 Living Bitters Capsules is safe for consumption.
This follows social media video reports purporting that the Living Bitters Capsules, a herbal medicinal product from Capital 02 Limited, had been adulterated with some non-edible and potentially harmful substances.
The FDA, in a statement, said its Market Surveillance Team carried out investigations to ascertain the veracity of the social media report but found nothing wrong with bitters.
Mrs Delese A. A. Darko, Chief Executive Officer of the FDA, who signed the statement, said the Market Surveillance Team, among others, sampled two different batches (batch numbers 251120 and 261120) of the product from the open market and two other batches, (batch number 201120 and 150221) produced in the years 2020 and 2021 from the manufacturing site of Capital 02 for quality analysis at the FDA's IS017025(2017) accredited laboratory.
It said results from the laboratory established that each capsule contained varied compositions of Aloe capensis, Hydrastis canadensis among others as per the label.
The statement said further differential analysis ruled out the presence of coal tar or other harmful products.
It said the analyses indicated that the product completely dissolved in media that mimicked digestive fluids.
The FDA assured the public that, the product was safe for consumption and had not been adulterated.
The Authority said it would always uphold the health and safety of Ghanaians as mandated by the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851 and urged the public to send all concerns and enquires to 0551112224/5 0551112224 and fda@fda.qov.qh
