MTN Ghana Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of MTN Ghana, on Monday commissioned the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) School of Technology Lab to enhance delivery of technology related programmes.
Mr Franklin Manu, Chairman of MTN Foundation, said the Foundation would equally stock the GHS750,000.00 facility which took a year and half to complete, with all gadgets needed to facilitate effective teaching and learning.
He said the advent of COVID-19 had thrown more light on the importance of technology to the day-to-day activities of humans and provided opportunities to develop, as such, it was a venture worth supporting.
Mr Manu assured staff and management of GIMPA that their doors were opened for further collaborations.
The Chairman urged the Management to keep the facility in good shape to serve its intended purpose for a long time.
"We would ask them for a maintenance plan just as we request from all our beneficiaries. They will set up a maintenance committee where an MTN staff would be inclusive to help in periodic review of the facility and ensure proper maintenance," he said.
Professor Martin Morgan Tuuli, Deputy Rector of GIMPA, expressed appreciation to MTN Ghana Foundation for the kind gesture, adding that, he was hopeful more doors would be opened for collaborations between the two Institutions.
He said GIMPA was unique because they ensured that students acquired both academic skills and practical knowledge.
Professor Tuuli said the Lab would provide the opportunity for students to have hands on experience using equipment to repair and develop new gadgets.
He said it would also provide the base for the Centre to run other programmes like Telecommunications Engineering to support ongoing programmes in Information Communication Technology.
"In this age where technology continues to be at the centre of all that we do, this Lab will remain paramount to the School of Technology and its mandate to run Technology related programs," he said.
He assured MTN Ghana Foundation that GIMPA would maintain the facility well for the benefit of the nation and generations yet unborn.
