Dear Changemaker,
I find it hard to write this year’s appeal letter because I am well aware of the impact of COVID-19 on everyone’s life, business and finances. Then again, I find the strength to write this appeal because of the many lives we have impacted with your past or current support as well as the fears of the many whose lives would be destroyed if I fail to act in the coming year. Even for families that we are empowering, our COVID impact survey boldly shows that most of them cannot sustain their standard of living [2].
It is hard to find comfort knowing that there are many ‘invisible’ children who are fighting tirelessly for basic needs on the streets even in these hard times of COVID-19.
Comfort born to mentally incapacitated mother and mocked as a bastard found strength through our street work scholarship program to be able to complete basic school. James and John struggling from the unstable family situation were able to get mentorship and guidance to complete secondary school. Daniel the sole breadwinner of his family found refuge, strength and financial muscle in us to be able to focus on his education.
Comfort beaming with smiles after being supported to go to school through CHaW
Mistaken for a thief, mobbed and lynched, Daniel Ofosu could not have a strong shoulder for his family’s livelihood resulting in Christabel and her siblings dropping out of school. Thanks to supporters like you, Christabel is currently running a vocational business. Roland who cries his eyes out in grievance for his beloved mother and his jobless alcoholic father now finds hope, acceptance and his right to education thanks to our CHaW project.
For hundreds of children in street situations just like these, Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF) is helping the children to fulfil their wild dreams and making them see that there is light at the end of the tunnel through our Children in Hazardous Work (CHaW) scholarship programme to provide sustainable improvements in their lives.
Comfort is taken to school and social workers are helping her understand that she is not a bastard but a great beautiful woman. She was equally empowered through mentorship and regular guidance and counselling to help her figure out the right path to go. In addition to the advice, SCEF also provided support and enthusiasm to her continuously until she finished secondary school.

James and John have now completed secondary school and through our Centre for Grassroots Enterprise Program and recommendation from SCEF, they have gained employment as factory hands in a pharmaceutical company. This new opportunity would enable them to save so that they can further their education.
Christabel, now 17, is beaming with full smiles ever since SCEF rescued her. Through our constant monitoring and follow-up, Christabel successfully completed her junior high and progressed to senior high school. She read fashion design in school and currently a graduate. SCEF continued its support by purchasing a brand new sewing machine, which will aid her to participate in all practical’s in school.
Roland now finds his soul healing ever since SCEF rescued him from the streets where he use to work at a washing bay and sell sachet water at Tema station at night, just to feed himself and younger brother. He has been enrolled in a school at James Town
