The Scholars Council in partnership with the Scholars Community of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (MCFSP at KNUST), have donated some health equipment to the Ejisu Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region.

The items, including five wheelchairs, five ward screens, a delivery bed and a Patient Monitor, aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery at the Hospital. The gesture formed part of the KNUST Scholars Community's celebration of its International Day of Service - a day where Scholars around the globe take time to collectively give back to their immediate communities.

Mr. Frederick Ennin, President of the Scholars' Community at KNUST, said: "For Mastercard Foundation Scholars, giving back to the society is deeply personal and rooted in their journey as ethical leaders and change-makers in training".

The donation, he noted, was made possible by the financial contributions of over six hundred MCFSP at KNUST Scholars, stressing that they have over the years impacted many lives positively across the country and continue to do so in solving societal problems.

The Scholars' outreach programmes cover varied areas, including education, sanitation, health, Information and Communication Technology, agriculture, community development, amongst others.

Mr. Ennin indicated that based on their assessment and research conducted at the Ejisu Government Hospital, "we believe that the equipment we are donating today would go a long way to help in the delivery of quality healthcare to persons who patronize its services".
This year's celebration, he said, marked the Sixth International Day of Service for the Scholars' Community at KNUST.

Ms. Afia Ampomah Awuah, Programme Manager of the MCFSP at KNUST, said that: "Brilliant students, who otherwise would not have made it to the university due to economic challenges, are given access to quality tertiary education through comprehensive scholarships that are offered by the Scholars Program at KNUST."

She said aside the classroom training, "the Scholars, are taken through series of training sessions via internships to sharpen their technical know-how, entrepreneurial training, and ethical leadership training, amongst others".

This is aimed at equipping them with transferrable skills, to enable the Scholars to set up their own small businesses or train others in the community to have alternative source of livelihood.

Receiving the equipment, Mr. Alex Abugri, Administrator of the Hospital, on behalf of the Management, thanked the Scholars' Community and the MCFSP at KNUST Secretariat, for their kind gesture.

He said the Hospital was in dire need of the equipment donated to them, especially the wheelchairs and the delivery bed, since the ones the facility possessed were getting weaker due to the number of patients they served on a daily basis.

Present at the event were; Dr. Isaac Asenso Brobbey-Kyei, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Mr. Samuel Nash, Deputy Programme Manager, MCFSP at KNUST and Reverend Father Dr. Stephen Jantuah, Chief Counsellor, MCFSP at KNUST.
