It, therefore, called on the general public to support the GIS and other security agencies to help end the menace of illegal migration into the country.

That was contained in a statement signed by Mr Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul-Mumin Seidu, the Upper West Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Service, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Wa.

“Aside from that, as officers mandated to man our borders we are enforcing the President's directive on the closure of our borders. This directive must be adhered to without any hesitation.

“It must be pointed out that no matter how smart the irregular migrants are, the men in uniform are far smarter and better positioned to subdue the illegality”, the statement added.

It also noted that as part of efforts to help curb the menace, the GIS personnel at Beat 3, an unapproved route bordering Burkina Faso at the Hamile Sector Command had arrested five Burkina Faso nationals at about 2030HRS on Tuesday for entering into Ghana through the unapproved route.

The statement added that the illegal migrants were aged between three and 29 years traveling to Sunyani in the Bono Region to engage in farming activities.

“The prohibited migrants were screened by the health personnel before being handed over to the Burkina Faso authorities at the Hamile Border Post at about 0800HRS on the 27th day of May 2020”, the statement indicated.
