They have also appealed to those currently in Kwahu to desist from leaving the area, and rather lock themselves on the mountains.
This, the chiefs believe will help prevent the spread of the deadly Coronavirus disease in the area. The President of the Kwahu Traditional Council and Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong made the appeal in a statement signed and issued on his behalf on Thursday, March 26, 2020, the Registrar of the Council, Mr Samuel Tuffour.
“All natives of Kwahu who currently live outside Kwahu, should endeavour to continue to stay wherever they may be, in the weeks to come and postpone all planned visit to Kwahu until further notice,” the statement said.
It said the decision is in line with directives by President Akufo–Addo to control and eradicate the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong also asked all residents to remain in Kwahu, “No travelling outside of Kwahu until the pandemic is contained.”.
He explained that the decision was taken after an intensive deliberation by stakeholders.
“Daasebree together with Nananom of the Kwahu Traditional Council have constituted an advisory body named the Kwahu COVID-19 team. This body comprises of eminent chiefs, medical doctors, other health-care professionals and local MMDCEs.”
He explained that the team observed that there is a large population of the aged in Kwahu and since they (aged) are vulnerable, any outbreak in the area will be devastating.
He therefore, urged the populace to follow all the necessary preventive measures such as not shaking hands, not hugging and avoid embracing others.
“Constantly wash your hands with soap under running water. Keep a distance of at least 2 meters or 6 feet with the next person and no social gathering”, he added.
