He said all the ten communities in his Electoral Area were faced with the challenge of accessing potable water, a situation which has compelled the people to compete with animals for water from streams and rivers for all domestic purposes.

Mr Gizuure made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tamvaar.

He said the Damwateng community of about 500 people had no source of potable water and had to depend on a river while the only borehole at the Jolinteng community produced mud anytime they pumped it.

Meanwhile, Goal 6 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) enjoins all member states that are signatories to those goals to "Ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all" by 2030.

Mr Gizuure commended the Wa West District Assembly for providing some communities in his Electoral Area with some boreholes adding that they were inadequate and could not meet the water demand in the area.

Some of the women in the community, who spoke to the GNA, said they had to sleep at the borehole at night before they could get water to fetch.

"When we sleep, we have to wake up in the middle of the night, wake our children up and we go to queue at the borehole before we can get water to fetch", Madam Yirwele Benyir said.

She said the situation has affected academic performance of the children in the community, especially girls, as they spend a lot of time queuing for water.
