He said: "Do not lose sight of the fact that in due course in the fullness of time you would give account of your stewardship to your people so put your shoulders to the wheel to help rake in revenue to improve the living conditions of the people."

Mr Asihene made the call at the close of a two-day orientation and training exercise organised by the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly for its assembly members and government appointees at Teiman in Accra.

It was to keep the participants abreast with their responsibilities, functions and proceedings of the House.

They were taken through the model Standing Orders of Act 936, meeting procedures, public financial management and the new decentralisation outlook (2020-2024) since most of the 13 assembly members and the six government appointees were new.

Mr Asihene urged the participants to find full meaning to the training received by applying the knowledge acquired in the discharge of their functions to ensure the progress of the Assembly.

Mr Joseph Addo Gyampoh, a leading consultant and a member of the Public Administration and Local Government Consultants who took the participants through the orientation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency called on all assemblies to provide such training for their members.

He commended the assembly members for availing themselves for the exercise and that "Once you offer yourself to serve the people, you must be acquainted with the laws, and guidelines of assembly business in order to dovetail well into the scheme of things."

Mr Gyampoh said the Assembly was a public institution which can sue and could be sued and this underlined the importance to which assembly members must attach to such exercises to orient themselves to avoid possible anomalies on the floor or legal collisions with any member of their jurisdiction.
