The Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health (GCNH) on Monday called for urgent establishment of a National Programme on the management of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.
The programme, according to the GCNH would among other functions intensify and sustain public education particularly on border towns and check points to help control the spread of the COVID-19.
A statement issued by the Coalition and signed by Dr. Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, its national Chairman and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his political will and financial commitment to control and prevent the spread of the disease.
It called on the government to further strengthen the Mental Health Authority to provide psychotherapeutic and anti-stigma/anti-discrimination services to carriers of the virus.
"Private health care providers must be properly mainstreamed in the fight against the COVID-19. Civil society organisations, farmers and cooperative societies must be deeply involved in the fight," the statement added.
"May the good Lord continue to strengthen President Akufo-Addo with wisdom and energy to handle effectively this global and national pandemic," it stated, and called on Ghanaians to support efforts by the government to control the COVID-19 in the country.
