Two countries, the Union of the Comoros and The Gambia have opened General Consulates in Laayoune and Dakhla respectively, both in the Moroccan Sahara. The opening of these two consulates are in line with strengthening the bilateral relations between African countries, in accordance with the 1963 Vienna Convention on the establishment of consular relations between sovereign states.
A number of African countries have their citizens living with their families in the cities in the Moroccan Sahara, where they are perfectly integrated, given the bold politics of migration and asylum, initiated by His Majesty the King, Mohammed VI.
The King’s vision is to see Africans co-operating to build a stronger and self-reliant Africa. His emphasis is on educating the African and equipping him/her with the necessary skills to improve upon and help build a strong solid Africa.
The opening of the consulates is also a strong testimony of the security and stability of the Saharan provinces of the Kingdom in a tumultuous regional context.
