Les Panafricaines Forum will hold its third edition in Casablanca on March 6 and 7, 2020 under the theme of “climate change and its impact on the African Continent.”
After the second edition that brought together more than 200 African journalists in Casablanca on October 26-27, 2018 to tackle media treatment of migration issues, «Les Panafricaines» network decided to put, within its 2020 action plan, strong emphasis on climate change and its heavy consequences on a continent that produces only 4% of global emissions of greenhouse gases.
Deforestation, desertification, preservation of water resources, alternative agriculture, precariousness, climate migration, food security or political unrest are all issues related to climate change. Indeed, «Les Panafricaines» network has decided to place these issues among the priorities of their media, and at the heart of their awareness-raising activities with decision-makers and public opinion in Africa.
At a time when the African Union calls for mobilizing a united African force to face the harmful effects of climate change through the adaptation and resilience strategies, and when the UN stresses that 2020 will be a turning point for the world Climate Action, «Les Panafricaines» Women network will focus, through 6 workshops during its forum, on the background of their 2020 agenda.
As part of the preparation of the Third Forum, «Les Panafricaines» Committee held a meeting with Moroccan journalists in Casablanca on November 26, to present the results of the actions organized by «Les Panafricaines» Women throughout the year and to launch the organization of the Moroccan section of the network, to include new members. Building on the success of the two previous editions and the strength of their network, more than 300 Pan-African women will take part in the third forum.
Initiated by the 2M Group in 2017, «Les Panafricaines» is a network of African female journalists from the 54 countries of the African continent. This network aims to contribute to a greater responsibility of the African media in dealing with the central issues that interest the public opinion of the continent. This network also assigns itself the mission of constituting a real force of reflection and proposal.
