The Catholic Association of Media Practitioners – Ghana, (CAMP-G) has condemned the senseless attacks on Journalists in the course of the performance of their duties and called on security agencies to expedite actions in finding the perpetrators of these crimes.
They have also called on civil society and religious leaders to stand up against the rise of so-called vigilante groups in the country which threaten our peace and security.
The Catholic Journalists made the call at a just ended Annual General Meeting held from the 15th to the 17th February, 2019, at the SMA Regional House, Oshuiman, Accra.
They observed with satisfaction the role played by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and, in particular, the Bishop of the Yendi Diocese, Most Rev. Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, SVD, and others, in resolving the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis.
The members of CAMP-G pledged their fidelity to the truth for which Christ lived and died and affirmed that media ethics was essential in their work. They prayed that God would guide the Holy Roman Catholic Church and Ghana towards peace and development.
After two days of discussions, members of the Catholic Association of Media Practitioners resolved to be the voice of the voiceless, use modern communication and new media platforms in this digital age to promote peace, truth, justice and reconciliation in Ghana and fight social vices such as bribery, corruption and indiscipline in the country.
They also resolved to continue to focus on integral human developmental issues with reference to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As regards their catholic faith, members of CAMP-G pledged to defend the Catholic Church by using platforms available to them to educate the Ghanaian populace.
At the end of the Congress, the following were elected to steer the affairs of CAMP-G for the next two years:
