Nairobi is hosting today the L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science awards ceremony for Sub-Saharan Africa. A first for Kenya to host this prestigious event.
The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme has recognised outstanding female scientists for the last 20 years. Since 1998, the programme has supported 3,122 women to date, rewarding 102 laureates and granting 3,020 Doctoral and Post-Doctoral fellowships in 117 countries.
In 2010, the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science partnership started the For Women in Science Regional Fellowships including the L'Oréal-UNESCO For
Women in Science Sub-Saharan Africa Fellowship programme. The objective of the Regional Fellowships is to bring support to young women pursuing scientific careers in dozens of countries throughout the world where L’Oréal does not have a subsidiary. The Sub-Saharan Africa Fellowship
programme covers 49 countries.
