The Project Management Insititute (PMI) and the Ministry of Business Development on Friday, 30th November, 2018, organised a seminar at the Alisa Hotel in Accra as part of observing "Professional Development Day".
The seminar saw key stakehlders in the project management field giving presentations to participants on various ways of attaining transformational development and good business results.
Speaking to participants, Dr Sena Agbodjah Agyepong, MGhiS PMP, Senior Lecturer at Ashesi University spoke on Physics and its relation to projects. She urged them to be curious about the systems that govern the universe because these will help them engage in projects that will have positive impact. She also encouraged them to be conversant with the various subsystems that exist in their individual orgnaisations in order to identify any flaws and address them.
She asked project managers to conduct frequent needs assessment to understand the stucture of systems of their projects and also consider factors such as the Sustainable Development Goals, Country Goals and Sector Goals to help them gain access to funds or achieve the strategic direction of sponsor organisations.
Mr Abraham Kuuku Sam, PMP- Director for Learning and Development at the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana (IIPGH) spoke on the topic "Drawing The Link Between Adaptive Project And Leadership And Transformational Development". He said that transformational development requires deliberate attention cutting across all sectors and not just the economics sector as most people think.
Mr Sam also drew distinctions between technical projects and adaptive projects. He said that technical projects have predictive life cycles while adaptive projects have adaptive life cycles citing the Ghana Beyound Aid as an example of a project with adaptive challenges.
He advised project managers against diverting attention and displacing responsibility.
Mr Ebo Richardson- Director For Change And Tranformsation At Barclays Bank Ghana said that digital transformation is responsible for creating new ways of doing things, bringing about markets or opportunities while decimating established players. He said in today's world, digital disruption is a clear and present danger and gave instances that characterise digital disruption as transient brand affinity, shifting business goalposts and changing value.
In an Interview with Mr Albert Agbemenu, President of the PMI Ghana Chapter, he said that the institute has partnered with four ministeries including the Ministry of Local Government on their Planting for Export and Rural Development Program. He added that they are helping the Ministry to put together a framework for its impelementation. He said that they are also working together with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) on projects to solve flooding in major cities in Ghana as well as the One District One Factory Secretatriat to design projects for their programmes.
Mr Kodzo Deku, Vice President for Outreach at PMI Ghana Chapter said that the Professional Development Day is meant to bring together about 150 professionals to share their experiences and help people grow their business and their individual selves. He said feedback from previous events have been awesome, helping to improve businesses such as his personal business SokoCenter.com, an e-commerce platform.
