The Environmental Unit of the Kwahu Afram Plains North District Assembly with support from the District Health Management Teams have screened over 1,000 food vendors in the district.
The exercise, was to ensure that food vendors in the district do not harbour any communicable diseases, which could be transmitted to their customers.
Speaking at the Assembly's General Meeting held at Donkorkrom, Mr Samuel Kena, the District Chief Executive (DCE) explained that out of the over 1,000 food vendors who were screened, 104 had typhoid while 30 others refused to be screened.
He said the defaulters were sent to court and were duly fined, adding that, in their next operation, any vendor who refuses to be screened would be banned from selling in addition to the court fine.
Mr Kena hinted that, the assembly would soon begin a district- wide immunization programme for children between the ages of nine months to less than five years, with the im of bringing measles and rubella infections in the district to the barest minimum.
He indicated that plans were far advanced for the renovation of the Anidzi Clinic which was destroyed by storms some months ago to help provide quality healthcare delivery to the people in the area.
He therefore entreated the assembly members to educate their people on the need to go through the exercises so as to ensure a healthy and disease free environment.
