As the newly appointed Director, Mr Amoafo will work as the Chief Executive Officer and spokesperson of Amnesty International Ghana.

Mr Amoafo who has over 10 years working experience takes over from Mr Frank Doyi, a statement issued to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Thursday has said.

It said Mr Amoafo began his human rights activism in 2007 where he served as Project Assistant working with Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), African Regional Office.

“In 2012 he joined the Human Rights Advocacy Centre (HRAC) as a Programs Manager and later became the Executive Director in 2013,” the statement said.

According to the statement, in 2015 Mr Amoafo was appointed Technical Advisor to the Linkages Project which was implemented by FHI 360 and funded by USAID, Ghana.

It said at FHI 360, Mr Amoafo spearheaded HIV programming from a focus of prevention to treatment.

The statement noted that from May 2016 to June 2017, Mr Amoafo also worked with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) as Communications Consultant.

Mr Amoafo is an advocate of human rights with vast research experience in gender and sexuality, human trafficking, health rights, International human rights law, mental health and disability, navigation of the justice system and policy advocacy.

He is keen on advancing economics, social and cultural rights as well as promoting the empowerment of Ghanaians to assert their rights.

Mr Amoafo who is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Information Studies.

He also holds a certificate in Conflict Management, Gender and Human Rights, from the Centre of Conflict Resolutions at Cape Town, South Africa.

He is an alumnus of the International Visitor’s Leadership Program and the Dutch Visitors Program.
