The goal, he said, was to ensure that there was adequate protection for every Ghanaian child. “They certainly do not belong to the street and that is why this exercise should be supported by everybody”, he added.

Mr. Darfour was speaking at an annual party organized for street children and inmates of various orphanages in Kumasi. It provided the opportunity to educate them on their basic rights and freedoms and to encourage them to report any form of abuse to their caretakers and supervisors.

He told them to refuse to keep any such abuse to themselves and to live with the trauma.

He reminded them to show strong inclination towards the pursuit of academic careers and vocational skills acquisition. He called for all to join the fight against child physical and sexual abuse, trafficking and neglect.

Mr. Darfour also spoke of the need for parents to live up to their responsibility to their children - show them parental love and warmth.
