Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Stella Sedeme, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) on Thursday advised driver to avoid unnecessary speeding during the Christmas festivities to prevent road crashes.
She observed that the lack of rest by drivers also contributed to road accidents, because many drivers crave for money and therefore do not have time to rest. He said most commercial drivers sit behind the steering wheel for 24 hours because of stranded passengers at the various stations, which is not good.
DSP Sedeme, who gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, said a lot of measures had been put in place by her outfit to ensure that the region would experience an accident-free Christmas.
She said Police officers had been positioned on roads and highways in the region to ensure discipline and urged drivers to cooperate with them because they are there to ensure the safety of the general public.
DSP Sedeme urged drivers to obey the rules and regulations on the road by observing all road signs and also carry along with them their valid driving documents because the Police officers would not entertain any excuses.
She entreated drivers not to speed and also ensure that they do not drive on worn-out tyres, as well as drink driving to avoid accidents. DSP Sedeme cautioned the general public against the construction of artificial road ramps in front of their offices, homes and on the main roads because it could cause accident and urged drivers to be on the lookout for such ramps.
