The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has asked the electorate to go into the election on December 7 and vote according to their conscience and not allowing themselves to be influenced by financial or material doles.
It had also asked political party activits to avoid inflammatory language and activities likely to breach the prevailing peaceful atmosphere, on the polling day and after.
The Eastern Regional Deputy Director of the NCCE, Mr. Lord Larbi, made the call at the opening ceremony of a four-day annual general meeting of the Christian Mothers Association (CMA) at Koforidua, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the theme of the meeting: "Good governance, probity and accountability", he reminded the association members that mass participation in the upcoming general elections to elect those they want to be ruled was an essential aspect of ensuring the growth of good governance, probity and accountability in the political system."
According to him, since democracy thrived on the respect for and sharing of variety of positive ideas among the citizenry, the people should tolerate others views for the promotion of good governance.
Mr. Larbi urged the media to discharge its role of informing and educating the people more effectively to enable them to contribute ideas towards enhancing the sustenance of democratic governance in the country.
The Koforidua Diocesan Spiritual Director of the association, Rev. Father Paul Laweh, stressed the need for the leadership of the association at all levels to exhibit probity and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
He referred to various Canon laws to emphasise the high regard the church had for accountability and transparency by its bishops, priests and lay structures to the faithful and urged the association to uphold such standards at all times.
The national president of the CMA, Mad. Augustina Boache, appealed to the electorate to exercise their franchise wisely on polling day and vote for a government which had the interest of women and children at heart.
The International Spiritual Director of the CMA, Rev. Fr Alfonse Amanor, presented a certificate of recognition from Pope John Paul to Mad. Boache.
