Mr Kusi Aboraa, Ashanti Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has reiterated the need for parents to invest in their children's education and development.
He said investing in children's welfare would not only ensure the adequate human resource for national development, but also reduce poverty.
Mr Aboraa was speaking at an NCCE forum at Atwedie in the Asante-Akim South District at the weekend.
He noted that the inability of people to understand and appreciate laws on children's rights was the major problem affecting the proper development of children in the country.
Mr Aboraa said the high prevalence of armed robbery, gambling, drug abuse among other vices were due to the lack of proper parental care and entreated parents to seek the development of their children.
Mr Bernard Owusu-Ansah, the District Director of NCCE, advised parents to respect the rights and freedom of children and desist from subjecting them to child labour.
