The Managing Director of AEL Mining Services West Africa, Mr Franky Botha has indicated that his firm would not sacrifice the safety of its employees and the protection of the environment in which they operate.
He said the company would put people first and ensure that no matter the condition, the provision and protection of their employees would be held above all.
Mr Botha explained that because the company ensured the constant safety of employees, it has achieved 3 million man working hours within three years without recording any case of injury. The managing director said this during a media engagement as part of activities to mark the 2017 safety day celebration programme at Bogoso.
He explained that as an explosive company that had been operating in Ghana for over twenty four years, with more than 300 employees, they have no choice than to put in place measures to ensure the safety of their workers.
Mr Botha stated that even though AEL mining service was doing well in the Ghanaian market, financially they were having challenges because there were limited number of mining companies in town. He said "we thought it was a slowdown of the gold price that was creating this problem, but new gold mines keep springing up in Francophone Africa which is not the case in Ghana".
"The Obuasi incident has been very tough for us because it is our customer and fortunately l believe they will re-open soon in 2018 because it's a very important asset for Ghana", he noted. Mr Botha said as an explosive supplier and mining operator, they would would be glad with the establishment of more mining companies to provide opportunities for employment and wealth creation in the country.
The operations manager of AEL mining services, Mr. Akwasi Amoako Kankam , said AEL is an International Standards organisation listed company and urged their customers to feel comfortable when transacting business with them.
He said "whatever the company gives out to its customers is of the best quality so that they will be able to exploit the maximum gold they want". Mr Kankam commended management for creating an enabling working environment and policies to eliminate hazards in their work.
The union Secretary, Mr Mose Odoi Tetteh, for his part congratulated employees for obeying regulations governing their work and asked management to reward employees adequately to enable them give of their best.
