Mrs Naana Eyiah Quansah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, has presented hospital equipment to the Gomoa Obuasi Health Centre to ensure quality health delivery.
The items include face masks, sample containers, syringe and needles, catheters, urine bags, limb holders, examination gloves, plasters and butterfly needles.
Addressing the chiefs, nurses, paramedical staff and some residents of Gomoa Obuasi, Mrs Quansah said the donation was made possible by Affum Dankwa Mission International Ghana, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) in the United State of America, though an appeal she made.
She appealed to the Ministry of Health and the Government to upgrade the Health Centre to play its pivotal role in health delivery. Mrs Quansah said the Health Centre served over 36 towns and villages in Gomoa Central, Agona West and Gomoa West adding that it needed expansion and bungalows for nurses, paramedical staff, doctors and directors to enable them work effectively.
She appealed to the staff to take good care of the items to serve the purpose for which they were donated. Mr Benjamin Kojo Otoo, the District Chief Executive of Gomoa East, commended the MP for her continuous support to the District in terms of education and health so as to improve the living standards of the people.
He said the Government, under President |Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, would not deceive Ghanaians and expressed the hope that all promises made during the 2016 electioneering would be fulfilled.
Mr Otoo called for the upgrading of the Health Centre to a district hospital to serve the people in Gomoa East and Central and minimise referrals to Agona Swedru Municipal, Apam Catholic and Breman Asikuma Catholic hospitals.
He said the Assembly would help to provide the needs of the Health Centre to ensure efficiency. Mr Stephen Tei Toh, the Gomoa Obuasi Director of Health Services, expressed appreciation to the MP for the kind gesture and urged other NGOs to also assist.
He gave the assurance that the items would be put to good use and appealed to the Government to provide the Centre with a bus to enhance service delivery.
