The discussion will be under the theme “Accelerating Progress in Building Productive Capacities in Least Developing Countries and Other Vulnerable Developing Economies.”

Dr Bawumia’s task at the meeting is to analyse the development challenges confronting African countries including Ghana.

His analysis is expected to stimulate discussions on measures to facilitate greater trade and investment in Africa.

UNCTAD is the United Nations (UN) body responsible for international trade development. The conference is aimed at employing international trade a driver of development, especially among developing countries.

UNCTAD focuses its analytical research on the linkages between trade, investment, and technology. It also focuses on enterprise development with a "positive agenda" for developing countries in international trade negotiations.

Its activities are designed to assist developing countries to better understand the complexity of multilateral trade negotiations.

 Dr Bawumia is expected back home today, September 13, 2017.
