A retired educationist, Madam Esther Edjeani, has assumed the chairmanship position of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the Volta Region.
Madam Edjeani, the first female Regional Chairperson, until her elevation, was the second Regional Vice- Chairperson of the party.
By virtue of the appointment of the former Regional Chairman, Mr John Peter Amewu, as the Minister of Lands and Forestry and the first Regional Vice- Chairman, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, as the Volta Regional Minister, the onus fell on Madam Edjeani to assume the new position in line with the party’s constitution.
Madam Edjeani, therefore, made history as the first female regional chairperson for the NPP in the country. Her election had been confirmed by the party hierarchy and would remain as such until the party holds another election next year.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, she said her aim was to build on the achievements of her predecessor to solidify the team spirit of members of the party in the region, adding that all small groups would be brought together to fight on a common front for victory in the next general election.
She said the gospel of the NPP would be preached to ensure that all promises were delivered in accordance with the manifesto of the party with a declaration that, “all hands on deck”.
Madam Edjeani said with her feminine touch, the party would grow from strength to strength in the region to ensure that the aspiration of the electorate would be met.
