Mr Peter Ayamga Ayinbisa, the District Chief Executive [DCE], in the company of the Alhaji Tahiru Rafiu, District National Disaster Management Organisation, led a team to inspect the havoc.

The team visited the Assembly’s quarters where about four blocks had their roofs taken off, and Soe Community Senior High School where a classroom block, which also doubles as an assembly hall for the school had collapsed.

A number of trees fell at the blow of the storm inside the Soe market blocking the main road.

A tree also fell on the main electricity transformer serving the community, thus cutting the area off from the national grid.   A young girl of about 15 years was hit by one of the fallen trees and got injured in the leg and head.

The Ayopia Junior High School [JHS], the Bongo-Soe R/C Primary and JHS and the Vincent Akurigo Memorial R/C Primary School had their roofs blown off.  The Lungu CHPS Compound and about 10 store rooms at the Balungu market were also damaged.

The DCE said government alone could not handle the quantum of relief items that would be required to restore the victims and appealed to non-governmental organisations and philanthropists to come to the aid of the district.

Mr Anangina Alebsina Wilson, the Assistant Headmaster of the School, said close to 50 students had been displaced as a result of the incident but gave the assurance that the authorities had made arrangements to manage the situation so that academic work could go on.
