He said Sanitary Inspectors ought to be more visible in the local communities for the enforcement of the bye-laws to its fullest. Mr Twene gave the advice when he was speaking at a stakeholders meeting on waste management in Sunyani.

It was organised by the Hand in Hand, and attended by traditional authorities, Assembly members, Unit committees, fun clubs and other key players in waste management.  Mr Twene observed that waste was becoming a serious societal threat that required collective and shared responsibility to tackle.

He expressed concern about the indiscriminate dumping of waste in the Municipality, noting that because the Assembly had failed to enforce its bye-laws to the maximum, culprits were always set free.

Mr Twene said his organisation in collaboration with the Sunyani Traditional Council had intensified measures to ensure that Sunyani remained the cleanest city in Ghana as being touted in the social and traditional media.

In this regard, Hand in Hand would ensure effective partnership with schools, and churches to educate the general public on waste management, he explained.Mr Twene appealed to corporate bodies, NGOs and philanthropists to support his organisation with tricycles, motorbikes and cleaning tools.

He said the Sunyani Municipality had been divided into four zones and his organisation would need 160 waste bins to be placed at vantage points for waste collection, and appealed for support.Mr Twene observed that the Assembly spent 30 to 40 per cent of its revenue on waste management, hence the need to support them in that regard.

Nana Yaa Nyamaa Poduo II, the Queen of Sunyani, assured that the Sunyani Traditional Council was ready to support any course of development. She entreated the Municipal Assembly to provide the organisation with the required support in its efforts to rid the city of filth.
