The provision of the facility, which was implemented by Safe Water Network, a non-governmental organisation, with financial support from the Dutch Embassy in Accra and other partners, brings to an end the perennial water crisis that faced Sekasua and adjoining communities.

Hitherto, the communities relied on a stream that brought in its wake some waterborne diseases.

Maintenance

The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Dr Joseph Kofi Adda, urged the beneficiary communities to ensure the sustainability of the project through regular maintenance.

He gave an assurance that the government would continue to provide funds to ensure that the country achieved its goal of water for all.

Dr Adda acknowledged the contribution of the Dutch Embassy to the development of the country over the years.

He commended them and their partners for the support for the community.

Significance

The Dutch Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Ron Strikker, underlined the significance of water to life and said every Ghanaian was entitled to good drinking water.

He said the Dutch government had so far supported the country with about 94 water projects, including that of Cape Coast and Elmina.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Safe Water Network, Mr Kurt Soderlund, said the dream of extending water to the community was mooted 10 years ago after a visit to Sekasua.

The Ghana Country Director of the NGO, Mr Charles Nimako, appealed to those who desired to extend water to their various households to liaise with the management of the water board in the area for assistance.

For his part, the Chief of the town, Nene Asafoatse Obotiapong VI, described the intervention by their benefactors as timely and expressed appreciation to them for their immense support.
