In a press release copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), they called for efforts at addressing the underlying causes of climate change. “We kick against false solutions; we call for sustainable solutions that protect the rights of women and children,” the release said.

It said the region, which was endowed with resources: water, mangroves, reeds, turtles among others with huge eco-tourism potentials were yet to be resourced and be developed to improve livelihoods and to alleviate poverty, which had become a cancer in the nation.

The release signed by leaders of the women grouping said climate change was having devastating impact on women and threatened their very survival. The women also appealed to government and stakeholders to support local women driven enterprises such as eco-tourism, salt winning, craft and kente weaving, fish processing, among others.

They also called for sustainable solutions that protected and empowered women because “women empowerment will lead to economic growth.”  The women groupings and youth of the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site celebrated the International Women’s Day (IWD) to recall their achievements as women throughout history and across nations making a call to action for the acceleration of gender parity.
