A nine- member committee executives constituted by the Catholic church to work towards peace has been inaugurated in Yendi.
They have been asked to work tireless in ensuring lasting and sustained peace in conflict areas of the north.
The Catholic Justice and Peace Commission Executives included Mr Emmanuel Wumbiyeli, the Bimbilla Parish, President; Mr Anthony Gornah, Saboba Parish, Vice President; Mr Paul Atia, Gushegu Parish, Secretary; Mr Jacob Binlu, Publicity Officer; Madam Florence Kukura, Treasurer, and Mr Peter Atia, from Yendi Cathedral, Coordinator.
The rest are Madam Ophelia Aboakye, Mr Mathew Duut and Clotilda Abango who are co-opted members from various parishes.
In his inaugural address the Yendi Catholic Bishop, Vincent Sowah Boi-Nal appealed to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, NGO’s and other benevolent societies to support the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission to enable members to work effectively in the promotion of peace particularly where there were conflicts.
Bishop Sowah Boi-Nal said the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission was an important organ of the church nationwide in working towards peace and were not waiting for conflicts to spark before they start work.
He stated that the Church had a task to work on peace buildings by putting in place programmes on peace education in their parishes.
He said as Christians they should champion the course of peace and love without which Christianity would not be seen in working.
Bishop Sowah Boi-Nal announced that there were about 225 chieftaincy cases throughout the country.
He said the problem facing the Chieftaincy institution was the lack of documentary on succession.
He said when there were conflicts people refuse to forgive one another, which brought about killings and destruction of property.
He noted that peace could only prevail when there was avenue for dialogue.
He said recently the Members of the Commission were in Bimbilla on peace mission and met with the Royal Gates, Imams and Assembly members, aimed at seeking lasting peace in the area.
The Coordinator of Inter-Religious Dialogue, Reverend Father John Mensah Semnanke who swore executive advised them to work together as a team of Christians and bring peace to their areas.
