The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has renewed the call to the people to heed fire safety education to help prevent fire outbreaks. Mr. Semekor Fiadzo, the Ashanti Regional Fire Officer, said the negligence, reckless overloading of electrical sockets and careless handling of naked fires should not continue.
Making the call through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, he said many of the fire incidents could be prevented if the people became more alert and cautious in the things they did.
The region within the first month of this year, recorded 95 cases of fire, 46 of which were domestic. Compared with last year’s same period total of 196, it showed a significant decline of 35 per cent. Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Fiadzo said they were determined to sustain the public education campaign to substantially bring down fire disasters in the region.
He spoke against illegal power connection and counseled property owners to engage qualified electricians to undertake the wiring and electrical installations in their buildings.
