He said all the infrastructure constructed by government in the sector would amount to nothing if the people who are beneficiary of such investments do not appreciate the need to learn for a better tomorrow.

The Regional Director was speaking at the joint commissioning of ICT centres for the RC, Methodist, DA, Presby, Ahmmadiyya and Kodiwhia Basic Schools at Kenyasi Number two in the Asutifi District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

The projects constructed at the cost of GH¢2.5million by the Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation NADef include teachers quarters, school block for the Kenyasi Midwifery School, among others.

The beneficiary communities include Wamanhinso, Gyedu, Kenyasi No. 1 and 2, Ntotroso, Adrobaa among others.

The Board Chairman of NADef, Madam Monica Nkrumah, noted that the 16 projects were implemented in collaboration with the beneficiary communities, Ghana Education Service, Water and Sanitation Committee and the district assembly.

She explained that the respective projects were carried out to suit the specific needs of the selected schools in the community and would be managed jointly by the district assembly and traditional authorities.

She said NADef was established in 2008 as a mechanism to manage Newmont’s sustainable community development commitment to its 10 host communities.

Ms. Nkrumah said the organisation has a stronger community participation and ownership as well as independent governance structure which highlight the roles of the Ahafo Social responsibility forum.

Nana Anim Dankwa, Saamanhene of the area, encouraged all stakeholders of education to collaborate more to achieve and promote education for the future generation.

He also appealed to the beneficiary schools to ensure proper maintenance of the projects to ensure their sustainability.
