The two-day training, held in Tamale for journalists drawn from Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions, sensitized participants on responsible media coverage of this year’s elections.

The training also sensitized journalists on the standards of journalism and how journalist must play mediating roles in the event of conflicts. Reverend Father Clement Aapenguo, Executive Director of the Centre for Conflict Transformation and Peace Studies, who was the resource person, urged journalists to abide by the principles of truth, independence, fairness, and respect for humanity in their reportage.

Reverend Aapenguo reminded journalists of their role in conflict resolution urging them to clarify perception and facilitate communication amongst various sides of conflict.He advised broadcast journalists to be mindful of the choice of words of opposing factions on their talk shows and know how to moderate such shows to avoid conflicts.

The training ended with a practical demonstration by participants on how to effectively control feuding parties in a studio during a talk show.
