According to the acting Director of Health Services for the Bosomtwe District, Mr Bernard Bediako Badu, some of the initiatives put in place by the DHMT  include assigning one midwife to properly take care of a specific number of pregnant women in the district irrespective of their location, and the training of midwives and their assistants on the use of Pantograph (a tool to monitor the labour process/stages during labour) so that they would be able to detect the danger and control it or take the right decision to save the situation.

 These efforts, he said, are to ensure that the disrict, which reported some few maternal deaths in 2014 and 2015, will not record any death, when the initiatives make the needed impact.

Prevention of complications

This, he said,would ensure that delivery becomes easy and complications detected early for the necessary action to be taken to prevent accident or death.

Mr Badu disclosed this to the Daily Graphic on the sidelines of the district’s half-year health review meeting held at Kokoado near Kuntanase in the Bosomtwe District in the Ashanti Region.

The meeting brought together all stakeholders in the health sector in the district and beyond to assess the state of health care in the district and plan the way forward.

The acting director urged health personnel to take keen interest in proper record keeping at their health facilities, since it could enhance quality health care in the country.

Commendation

He commended the Bosomtwe District Assembly for its support towards the provision of infrastructure and other resources towards the attainment of health care  in the district and also lauded health workers in the district for their dedication towards the attainment of quality health care for the people.

Mr Badu reminded health personnel to be alert at all times and make sure not to undermine cases brought to their facilities but rather give them the needed attention to help address any form of complication.

The acting district director lamented the large number of pregnant women who travelled from other districts to seek health care in the district, saying some of them came when their conditions had deteriorated and also without any record of antenatal care before delivery.

This, according to him, made it very difficult to handle such cases, since the caregivers usually found it difficult to decide on where to start.
