The Akuapem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has commissioned and dedicated an ultra modern hospitality centre at Akropong.
The centre, which had 17 self-contained bed rooms, one dormitory with 20 beds, 140-capacity conference hall, a 25-capacity meeting room, an office, a lounge and a cafeteria, was funded by the various congregations within the presbytery. The funds were realized through fund raising activities.
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, who performed the ceremony at the weekend, commended the Akuapem Presbytery for putting up the center.
He said the time had come for the Church to go into income generating ventures to generate more funds to finance the activities of the church rather than depending solely on the small tithes and offerings paid by church members.
The Moderator urged other presbyteries, districts and congregations to learn from what the Akuapem Presbytery had done.
He said one major problem confronting the Church in modern times was mismanagement of finances and said the leadership of the Presbyterian Church was putting measures to ensure prudent financial management.
The Moderator warned that the Church would deal drastically with any leader or member, who would be found to have misappropriated Church’s funds.
The Akuapem Presbytery Chairperson, Rev Dr Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, said the construction of the centre had a triple purpose - to provide facilities for guests and visitors, to serve as income generating venture and to serve the ever students of tertiary institutions on the Akuapem ridge.
He commended the various congregations for supporting the development agenda of the presbytery over the years.
