Mr. Stephen Oscar Cobbina, the Western Regional Chief Fire Officer, has said it was important for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to complement the efforts of the Service by providing infrastructure for establishing fire stations.
He said this would enable the Service to respond promptly to fire outbreaks.
Mr. Cobbina told the GNA in an interview at Sekondi that the Service was handicapped financially to provide all the facilities needed in a fire station saying even one fire tender costs almost $250,000.
He called for support from all stakeholders to help establish more fire stations across the country to protect life and investments.
Mr Cobbina said under normal circumstance every district must have at least three fire stations but unfortunately some districts did not even have one fire station.
“Because some districts do not have fire stations, it makes it difficult for us to get to places where there are fire outbreaks early enough,” he said.
