The chiefs and People of Kaira in the South-Dayi District have appealed to the Roads and Highways Minister, Mr Joe Gidisu, to facilitate the transformation of the rough road from Todome to Toh-Kpalime into a tarred road.
They made the appeal at a durbar to mark 46 years of becoming a Volta River Authority Resettlement following the creation of the Volta Lake.
Speaking on behalf of the Community the Rev Stephen Gaitu of the Bethel Deliverance Centre reminded Mr Gidisu of the promise he made at Dzemeni when campaigning in the 2008 Presidential run-off that should
communities in the area vote for then candidate Prof John Atta Mills to become President that road would be fixed.
The Rev Gaitu said the road carries heavy traffic from the southern, central and northern part of the Volta Region including Togo to the popular Dzemeni market which has for the past 46 years been the treasure trove of the Kpando District Assembly and now the South Dayi District Assembly.
He said successive governments had acknowledged the economic viability of that road on account of the Dzemeni market but seemed to have lacked the commitment to fulfil their promises to transform it from a rough road to a tarred road.
The Rev Gaitu said he was hopeful that the government would not fail the people this time especially when Mr Gidisu had become the Roads and Highways Minister.
