The Tema Metropolitan branch of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) on Thursday called on the government to construct office accommodation for departments and agencies in the Tema Metropolis.
Mr Alfred Ofoe Agbobada, Secretary of CLOGSAG, Tema, who made the call, said this would ease the office accommodation problems faced by some government departments in the metropolis.
Speaking at the Association's Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Tema, Mr Agbobada said; "Recently the Tema Development
Co-operation (TDC) unilaterally attempted to eject all departments being housed in its premises".
He regretted that nobody went to the aid of the affected departments during such trying moments when they faced ejection threats.
He said all were not going well for members of CLOGSAG in the Tema Metropolis due to transport and accommodation problems.
Mr Agbobada, therefore, urged government to endeavour to complete the affordable housing project initiated by the previous government and allocate them to the public and Civil and Local Government Staff in the
Tema Metropolis.
He said it was difficult and expensive for CLOGSAG members to rent decent accommodation in the metropolis due to their meagre salaries.
Recounting the achievements of the executive during the past four years, Mr Agbobada said the Association acquired portions of land and sold them to members on credit in a bid to make land available and affordable to them.
He stated that the executive collaborated with the regional and national executives to organize a workshop on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for members which enabled participants to understand the problems associated with implementing the SSSS in its current form.
Mr Simon Danso Tse, Tema Regional Chairman of CLOGSAG, urged all Civil and Local Government Staff in the metropolis to join the Association.
He entreated members to be committed to the activities of the Association, instead of showing apathy.
New executive members were elected at the conference.
