Ayirebi Nkansah, a retired police officer, has appealed to the government to tackle the accommodation problem facing police personnel especially those working in deprived areas.
"The accommodation problem facing the police personnel must be given the seriousness it deserves so that they have peace to perform their duties diligently by protecting our lives and properties," he said.
Mr Nkansah, who spoke at a cleanup by the people of Aseseaso, said funds must be sourced to provide accommodation for security agencies,
particularly those in the rural areas.
"It is sad to see police officers who protect the citizenry and the nation staying in dilapidated buildings leaving their properties such as fridges and other valuable properties outside their rooms at the mercy of the weather."
He said the nature of police work and the risks involved called for better facilities, better accommodation and better conditions of service to motivate them.
