The Director of Services of the Ghana Police Service, said on Thursday that the management-based paradigm shift of the service
should reflect the best practices of the past, which endeared the personnel to Ghanaians and foreigners.
Mr George Anko-Bil, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, said products from the expected transformation should be a police man or woman with high integrity and good sense of duty.
Mr Anko- Bil was addressing police personnel in the Volta Region at an interactive durbar in Ho, to explain the current overhaul of the management of the service.
He said the new administration is driving at policies of recruiting only the right calibre of persons and human resource principles that
recognises competence and fairness in all matters including transfers.
Mr Anko-Bil observed that while scholarship is important in the new thinking of the current police administration, that should not be at the
expense of practical policing.
He said the rush by personnel to acquire higher qualifications is not impacting positively on the efficiency levels of the service.
Mr Anko-Bil said personnel numbers, categories and competencies would be based on a management plan.
He called on officers to go strictly by the set evaluation standards and resist glossing over palpable misconducts.
Mr David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, Regional Police Commander said in a situation report that crime had been curtailed in the area, citing only one
recorded armed robbery case in the past four months.
He said chieftaincy disputes which in the past created security problems are also minimal.
Mr Ampah-Bennin complained about accommodation problems of personnel in the region, explaining that 70 per cent of them live in rented premises.
He announced that collaboration is going on between the Service and the Electricity Company of Ghana for the reimbursement of bills paid by some police personnel.
